GB 6675 Testing for Children’s Board Games in China

Testing Overview

Children’s board games—which may include paper cards, cardboard game boards, plastic or wooden game pieces, dice, storage boxes, and other accessories—are classified as toys intended for children under the age of 14. A GB 6675 "Safety of Toys" test report is required for listing products on domestic e-commerce platforms, retail sales, and regulatory market surveillance inspections.

The entire board game set is broken down into its constituent homogeneous materials for individual assessment; the set cannot be tested as a single, combined unit.

Standard Test Items:

1. Mechanical and Physical Properties: Includes checks for small parts, sharp edges and points, tensile strength, compression, drop resistance, the structural integrity of accessories, and entanglement risks. Stricter controls on small parts apply to products intended for children under 36 months.

2. Flammability: Testing the burning rate of combustible materials such as game boards, cards, and fabric accessories.

3. Chemical Migration: Testing for the migration of eight soluble heavy metals: antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, and selenium.

4. Phthalates: Testing for six specific phthalates: DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, and DNOP.

Additional Test Items: Products containing magnets or magnetic beads require magnetic safety testing. Components with coatings or printing inks must undergo separate testing for heavy metals and phthalates. Wooden components require additional evaluation specific to wood materials.

Test reports are not interchangeable across different materials, printing inks, or color schemes; any change in materials necessitates re-testing. Required Documentation

1. Testing Request Form: Must include the product name, model number, and applicable age range.

2. Bill of Materials (BOM): Must specify the materials used for each component, such as the game board, cards, game pieces, dice, printing inks, and adhesives.

3. Product Photographs: Include actual product photos, images of the complete retail packaging, and any warning labels displayed on the packaging.

4. Sales Channels: Specify where the product will be sold and indicate whether expedited processing is required.

5. Production Samples: Submit a complete, retail-ready set of the product, including all accessories. Ensure that all variations—such as game pieces in different colors and cards with different printed designs—are included.

Testing Process

1. Initial Consultation: Confirm the applicable age range, the full list of components, and the materials used. Establish a comprehensive testing plan, detailing the specific units to be tested.

2. Submission: The client submits the required documentation and arranges for the shipment of samples.

3. Sample Receipt: The laboratory receives the samples, verifies them against the provided documentation, creates a project file, and separates the product into individual test units.

4. Testing: Conduct a series of tests, including mechanical and physical properties, flammability, heavy metal migration, and phthalate content. If the product contains magnets, magnetic safety testing is also performed.

5. Data Review: Test data is compiled, reviewed by engineers, and subjected to an internal laboratory audit.

6. Results: If the product passes, a GB6675 test report (accredited by CNAS) is issued. If it fails, the laboratory provides recommendations for corrective action; the client may then replace materials or inks and submit the product for re-testing.

Deesev’s standard turnaround time is 5–7 business days. The timeline for re-testing will be determined based on the scope of the necessary corrective actions.

Report Usage and Important Notes

The test report is intended for use in e-commerce platform listing reviews, regulatory market surveillance, and factory audits by clients.

Any changes to the base materials (e.g., game board substrate, card paper, raw materials for game pieces), printing inks, adhesives, or product structure will necessitate new samples and further testing. The report applies only to the specific samples submitted and does not guarantee that all other batches of the same model will meet the standards.

Note: Board games intended for children under 3 years of age are subject to more rigorous scrutiny and a broader range of risk assessments. Furthermore, the use of low-quality printing inks on cards frequently leads to issues with excessive heavy metal content.
