How to apply for EU ROHS testing for mouse and keyboard

Date:2025-07-11 10:08:44 Classification :【question】 Visits:350
The RoHS Directive is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation. It is the "Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment". The national push for RoHS certification is the requirement of the "Catalogue of Hazardous Substances Restricted Use in Electrical and Electronic Products" issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2019.

1. Necessity of testing

As an electrical and electronic product, the mouse and keyboard must comply with the "Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (RoHS 2.0) when exported to the EU. The directive limits the content of 10 harmful substances such as lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg). Products that exceed the standard will not be able to enter the EU market.

2. Core test items and limits

According to the requirements of the RoHS 2.0 directive, the following 10 types of substances need to be tested:

1. Heavy metals

- Lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+): limit ≤0.1% (cadmium ≤0.01%)

2. Flame retardants

- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs): limit ≤0.1%

3. Phthalates (new)

- DEHP, DBP, BBP, DIBP: limit ≤0.1%

> Note: Specific test items need to be split and tested according to the product material type (such as plastic, metal, circuit board, etc.).

III. Processing process and cycle

1. Material preparation

- Provide product manual, circuit diagram, parts list (BOM) and application form

- Product material, color and purpose (such as whether it contains battery/coating) must be clarified

2. Send samples

- Usually 1-2 complete samples are required, which are split and sent for inspection according to materials

3. Laboratory testing

- Cycle: 5-7 working days (routine projects), which can be shortened to 3 days for expedited testing

4. Report issuance

- RoHS test report is issued after passing the test, and the report is valid for a long time (unless the material or regulations are updated)

IV. Subsequent steps for compliance

1. Labeling and documents

- Products need to be affixed with CE mark (RoHS is part of CE certification)

- Keep test reports and supply chain material declarations to deal with EU customs spot checks

2. Update management

- Check the revision of RoHS directive every year to ensure that the materials meet the latest limits
