German LFGB testing process for storage tank lids
I. Testing process steps
1. Application and evaluation
- Submit an application form and provide product information (material, structure, use, etc.).
- A third-party organization evaluates applicable standards (such as LFGB 30/31, BfR regulations) and test items.
2. Sample preparation
- Provide at least 2 test samples (if it is an independent lid, ensure that the seal is intact).
- Submit a list of materials, production process instructions and description of usage scenarios.
3. Laboratory testing
- Basic tests:
- Comprehensive migration test (simulate actual use conditions to detect the amount of harmful substance migration).
- Sensory test (evaluate odor and taste transfer).
- Material special test:
- Plastic lid: Migrateable substances (such as plasticizers), heavy metals (lead, cadmium, etc.).
- Metal lid: precipitation of heavy metals (lead, cadmium, chromium) and coating temperature resistance test.
- Silicone/rubber lids: volatile organic compounds (VOM), organotin compounds.
4. Data evaluation and report issuance
- After the test is passed, the laboratory will issue a LFGB test report with CMA/CNAS certification.
- The report must include the test items, methods, results and compliance conclusions.
2. Cycle and cost
- Cycle: about 5-7 working days.
- Cost: Depending on the material, the cost of a single test is about 1,000.
3. Notes
1. Sample requirements:
- The sample must simulate the actual use state to avoid pretreatment or damage.
- If the lid contains coating or printing, additional testing of azo dyes or solvent residues is required.
2. Regulatory updates:
- Pay attention to the latest guidelines of the German BfR (such as the coating temperature resistance requirements added in 2025).
3. Market access:
- After obtaining the certificate, the knife and fork logo can be marked on the product to enhance the competitiveness in the European market.
IV. Recommended testing agencies
- Dezewei Testing: Provides multi-material special testing with transparent fees.
If you need a more detailed test plan or cost estimate, it is recommended to contact the laboratory directly for technical support.
