What requirements must children's bed bells meet in EU EN71 testing?

Date:2025-06-11 09:48:41 Classification :【question】 Visits:747
When children's bed bells are sold in the EU market, they must meet the requirements of the EN71 series of standards. EN71 is part of the EU toy safety standards and covers testing requirements in many aspects. The following are the main EN71 testing requirements that children's bed bells need to meet:

I. EN71-1: Physical and mechanical properties

- Drop test: Ensure that the bed bell does not break or produce small parts when it falls.

- Small parts test: Prevent the bed bell from containing small parts that may be swallowed by children.

- Sharp edge test: Ensure that the bed bell has no sharp edges that may cause cuts.

- Tension test: Ensure that the various parts of the bed bell will not fall off under tension.

- Pressure test: Ensure that the bed bell will not break or deform under pressure.

II. EN71-2: Flame retardant performance

- Flammability test: Ensure that the material of the bed bell does not burn quickly when exposed to a fire source, reducing the risk of fire.

III. EN71-3: Migration of specific elements

- Chemical substance restrictions: Ensure that the content of migratable elements (such as heavy metals and chemicals) in accessible parts or materials of the bed bell does not exceed the specified limits. Specific limits include:

- Lead ≤ 90 ppm

- Cadmium ≤ 75 ppm

- Chromium ≤ 60 ppm

- Arsenic ≤ 25 ppm

- Barium ≤ 1000 ppm

- Mercury ≤ 60 ppm

- Selenium ≤ 500 ppm

- Antimony ≤ 60 ppm

IV. Other related requirements

- EN71-4: Safety testing of chemical experiment toys (if applicable).

- EN71-8: Safety requirements for toys for outdoor entertainment (if applicable).

V. Certification process

1. Certification application: Submit the certification application form.

2. Samples and information: Provide relevant samples and technical information (such as design drawings, descriptions, applicable standards list, etc.).

3. Laboratory testing: Send samples to qualified laboratories for various tests.

4. Test report and certificate: The laboratory issues a test report and issues a certification certificate after passing the test.

VI. Notes

- Continuous compliance: EN71 certification is not a one-time thing, and manufacturers need to ensure that the product continues to meet the standard requirements.

- Other regulations: In addition to EN71, children's bed bells should also comply with other relevant EU regulations, such as REACH regulations, POPs regulations, RoHS directives, etc.

Only by meeting the above requirements can children's bed bells be qualified to enter the EU market and ensure that they will not cause harm to children under normal use and foreseeable reasonable abuse.
