UL4200A certification process for button batteries. UL4200A certification for button batteries is a test standard conducted by the UL certification agency in the United States for button batteries. It mainly evaluates the safety performance and child-proof ability of button batteries. This certification ensures the safety of products containing button batteries during use and reduces the risk of children removing button batteries from products and swallowing batteries. The following is a detailed certification process:

1. Select a certification agency:

- Select an agency with relevant qualifications and experience that can provide UL certification services.

2. Prepare materials:

- Prepare detailed technical specifications, design drawings, instruction manuals and other relevant materials for the product, and ensure that these materials meet the requirements of the UL4200A standard.

3. Confirmation of test items:

- Communicate with the certification agency to confirm that the UL4200A standard is applicable to the product, and determine the specific test items that need to be carried out.

4. Conduct testing:

- Provide products containing button batteries to the certification agency, and they will conduct corresponding tests and evaluations on them according to the UL4200A standard. Test items may include pretreatment, drop test, impact test, roll test, torque test, tension test, compression test, and installation firmness test.

5. Report review:

- Engineers will review the complete report to ensure the accuracy of the information.

6. Issuance of certificate:

- After the review is correct, the certification body will issue the UL test report.

Notes

- Cost and time: The cost and time of UL4200A certification vary depending on the product, test requirements and laboratory. The specific cost can be consulted with the certification body for an accurate quote.

- New standard changes: Starting February 12, 2023, button batteries or coin batteries sold, manufactured, and imported into the United States must comply with the child-resistant packaging requirements in the Anti-Toxic Packaging Standard. Starting March 19, 2024, all products using button batteries will need to comply with the UL4200A standard to ensure product safety.

Applicable product types

- Household products: These requirements cover household products that contain or may use button batteries or coin batteries.

- Non-dedicated products: These requirements do not apply to products that are not intended for use in places where children may come into contact with them due to their dedicated purpose and instructions, such as products that are used for purpose or commercial purposes where children are usually or not usually present.

- Battery type: Applicable to consumer products containing button batteries or coin batteries, which are usually single cells with a diameter of 32mm or less and a diameter greater than the height.

Conclusion

Through the above steps, you can determine whether your button battery needs UL4200A certification and follow the corresponding process. If your product meets the UL4200A standard, then obtaining certification will help improve product safety, increase consumer confidence, and may expand your market share.
