Metal Composition Analysis and Testing for Keychains
Testing Overview
Common base materials for metal keychains include zinc alloys, stainless steel, iron, and copper alloys. Composition analysis determines the content of individual elements within the base material, which is then compared against standards to identify the specific alloy grade—ensuring the material matches the specifications in your orders or technical drawings. Since most samples feature an electroplated coating, standard composition analysis focuses on the base material, with coating elements analyzed separately. Clients may opt for additional testing to determine the composition and thickness of the plating layer if required.
Testing methods include rapid non-destructive screening (via XRF) and precise quantitative analysis (via ICP-OES). The latter requires sample preparation but offers higher accuracy, making it ideal for platform audits, resolving customer complaints, and incoming material inspection.
Additional Testing Options
For cross-border exports, you can bundle this with other compliance tests, such as EU RoHS, REACH SVHC, California Proposition 65, or heavy metal migration testing. For keychains intended for children, CPC (Children’s Product Certificate) or EN71 testing can also be included.
Required Documentation
You will need to provide a test request form, the product name, the estimated material type, photographs of the sample, any specific standards or alloy grades required, and details regarding the destination country or platform requirements. Please send several finished product samples to the laboratory, as these are necessary for separating the plating layer from the base material for analysis.
Full Service Process
1. Consultation and Requirement Confirmation: Define the scope (base material only, or including the plating layer and additional compliance tests) and establish the applicable standards.
2. Submission of Documentation and Sample Shipment.
3. Sample Receipt and Registration: Laboratory staff prepare the samples by separating the plating layer from the base material.
4. Testing and Data Collection: Elemental data is acquired, and the alloy grade is verified.
5. Internal Data Review and Issuance of a CNAS-accredited Test Report.
The standard turnaround time at Deesev is 5–7 business days.
Report Usage and Important Notes
The test report can be used for incoming quality control, resolving material-related disputes, meeting audit requirements for cross-border e-commerce platforms (such as Amazon), or providing documentation to international clients.
If a product has a complex structure or incorporates multiple types of metal components, each part must be sampled and tested individually. Furthermore, if there are any changes to the base material or the electroplating process, the product must be resubmitted for testing.
