How to obtain an EU RoHS report for an electric screwdriver?

Steps for Obtaining an EU RoHS Report for an Electric Screwdriver

I. Preliminary Preparation Stage

1. Product Disassembly and Material Identification: Disassemble the electric screwdriver, identify all parts and raw materials, including metals, plastics, electronic components, solder, and batteries, and provide a Bill of Materials (BOM).

2. Selecting a Testing Institution: Choose a third-party laboratory with CNAS and CMA accreditations and experience in EU RoHS testing (e.g., Dezewei Testing CNAS Registration No.: L8083).

3. Preparing Technical Documents: Product manual, parts list, material declaration, material certificates provided by the supplier, etc.

II. Application and Submission Stage

4. Completing the Testing Application: Submit product specifications, material information, product images, etc. The laboratory will assess the specific items to be tested.

5. Sending Samples: For whole-machine testing, 1-3 complete electric screwdrivers are required; if testing by material, samples must be taken from different parts (e.g., casing, wires, solder joints, battery, etc.), with approximately 10-30g of sample per material.

III. Testing and Reporting Stage

6. Laboratory Testing: Testing is conducted according to the IEC 62321 series standards. Core items include:

Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium (4 heavy metals)

Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs), Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) (6 flame retardants)

4 Phthalate Salts (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP)

7. Issuance of Test Report: After passing the test, the laboratory issues a RoHS test report (usually within 7-10 working days).

IV. Compliance Application Stage

8. Affixing CE Mark: Based on the report, prepare a Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and technical documents. After affixing the CE mark, the product can enter the EU market.

Notes

Electric screwdrivers are power tools and, in addition to RoHS, must also meet the requirements of the CE-EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), the Low Voltage Directive (LVD, 2014/35/EU), and the Machinery Directive, among others.

Test reports do not have a fixed validity period, but retesting is required if the product structure, materials, or EU regulations are updated.

Key components to focus on: outer casing plastic (phthalates), battery (heavy metals), solder joints (lead), motor (hexavalent chromium), etc.
