Aluminum foil paper French DGCCRF certification report steps

Steps for Obtaining a French DGCCRF Certification Report for Aluminum Foil

I. Preliminary Preparation Stage

1. Product Information Confirmation: Clarify the specific purpose of the aluminum foil (food packaging, baking, grilling, etc.), specifications (thickness, dimensions), whether it has a coating, and the printing ink details.

2. Selecting a Testing Institution: Choose a third-party laboratory with French DGCCRF accreditation (DEZEW Testing CNAS Registration No.: L8083), prioritizing institutions with experience in testing food contact materials.

3. Preparing Technical Documents: Product composition description, coating material information, printing ink formula, storage conditions, and usage instructions.

II. Application and Submission Stage

4. Completing the Testing Application Form: Submit product specifications, operating temperature, and type of food contact (direct/indirect).

5. Sending Samples: Typically, a sufficient area of complete samples (unused and uncontaminated) is required, generally no less than 5-10 sheets.

III. Testing and Reporting Stage

6. Laboratory Testing: Testing is conducted according to DGCCRF and French regulations (Arrêté du 25 novembre 1992, etc.). Core items include:

Total Migration Testing: Simulating actual use conditions (e.g., food simulation liquids such as 10% ethanol, 3% acetic acid, and vegetable oil).

Specific Migration: Heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.), primary aromatic amines, aluminum migration, etc.

Sensory Testing: Color and odor transfer testing.

Coating/Ink Testing: If coated or printed, additional testing for related substance migration is required.

7. Issuance of Test Report: After passing the tests, the laboratory issues a DGCCRF test report (usually within 5-7 working days).

IV. Subsequent Application Stage

8. Declaration of Conformity: The company issues a Declaration of Conformity (DoC), which, along with the test report, allows the product to be sold in the French market.

Notes

Aluminum foil is a direct food contact material; DGCCRF requirements are stringent, and coatings and printing inks are often the focus of testing.

The choice of testing simulant solution must be determined based on the actual type of food contacted (e.g., different simulants are required for acidic, oily, and alcoholic foods).

The report does not have a uniform validity period, but retesting is required if the formula, process, or regulations are updated.

In addition to DGCCRF, aluminum foil exported to France also needs to pay attention to general requirements such as EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004.
