Guidelines for Obtaining Metal Alloy Composition Analysis Reports
Metal alloy composition analysis primarily uses chemical or physical methods to determine the content of various elements in an alloy. It is commonly used in quality control, material identification, failure analysis, and new material research and development.
I. Testing Objects and Standards
Common Metals: Stainless steel, aluminum alloys, copper alloys, zinc alloys, titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys, etc.
Main Standards:
Chemical Analysis: GB/T 4336, GB/T 20123, ASTM E478, etc.
Spectroscopic Analysis: GB/T 11170, ASTM E415, etc.
Different alloys have corresponding specific standards (e.g., GB/T 3280 Stainless Steel, GB/T 3190 Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys)
II. Common Testing Items
1. Main Element Content: Fe, Al, Cu, Zn, Ni, Ti, etc.
2. Alloying Elements: Cr, Mn, Si, Mg, Pb, Sn, etc.
3. Impurity Elements: S, P, C, N, O, H, etc.
4. Trace/Extreme Elements: Mo, V, Co, Bi Waiting
III. Processing Procedure
Preliminary Preparation (1-2 days): Clarify the testing purpose, alloy grade, required element range, and accuracy requirements.
Selecting an Institution (1 day): Choose a third-party testing institution with CMA and CNAS qualifications (Dezewei Testing CNAS Registration No.: L8083).
Sample Application (2-3 days): Fill out the application form and provide samples (blocks, chips, or powders are all acceptable). Sample quantity is generally ≥50g.
Testing Execution (3-7 working days):
Direct Reading Spectrometer (OES): Rapid determination of common elements.
ICP-OES / ICP-MS: Precise determination of trace elements.
Wet Chemical Analysis: High-precision quantitative analysis.
Select single or multiple analyses according to requirements.
Report Issuance (1-2 days): Issue a CMA-certified report, including testing methods, element content, and corresponding grade determination.
IV. Report Content Typically Includes
Sample Name, Specifications, and Source Information
Testing Basis and Methods
Measured Data for Each Element
Material Grade Determination (e.g., (304, 316, 6061, etc.)
Testing Conclusion
V. Key Reminders
Expedited Service: Standard completion time is 1-3 business days, additional fee applies.
Sample Preparation: Block samples need to be cut to appropriate size (generally ≤ 40mm thickness), and the surface needs to be polished smooth.
Report Uses: Product quality certification, customs inspection, trade acceptance, failure analysis, new product development, etc.
Confidentiality Requirements: Confidentiality agreements can be signed with the institution to protect client formula information.
