Guidelines for Obtaining GB4806 Food Contact Material Reports for Plastic Bottles

Plastic bottles are widely used in the food and beverage industry, and their material compliance directly affects food safety. Obtaining a GB4806 test report is a mandatory prerequisite for products to enter the domestic market, be sold on e-commerce platforms, or participate in bidding.

I. Applicable Product Scope

Beverage bottles (mineral water, juice, carbonated beverages, etc.)

Edible oil drums

Food packaging bottles (honey, jam, condiments)

Infant bottles, milk storage bottles

Disposable drinking water cups, plastic lunch boxes

Cosmetic bottles (if applicable to food-related uses)

II. Corresponding Standards

|Standard Number | Scope of Application

|GB4806.6 | National Food Safety Standard - Plastic Resins for Food Contact

|GB4806.7 | National Food Safety Standard - Plastic Materials and Products for Food Contact

|GB4806.1 | General Safety Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Products

|GB 31604.1 | General Rules for Migration Testing of Food Contact Materials and Products

|GB4806.2 | Infant-Specific Food Contact Products (when infant products are involved)

III. Testing Items (Core Items)

1. Sensory Requirements: Normal color, no off-odor, taste, or foreign matter

2. Total Migration: 4% Total migration amount in three simulated solutions: acetic acid, 10% ethanol, and vegetable oil (≤10 mg/dm²)

3. Specific migration amount: Testing for plasticizers, bisphenol A, formaldehyde, and other hazardous substances based on the material

4. Heavy metal residues: Lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, chromium, nickel, etc.

5. Decolorization test: Whether decolorization occurs after contact with ethanol or immersion solution

6. Other specific items: For example, PET requires attention to acetaldehyde release, and PA requires attention to caprolactam.

IV. Application Process

1. Selecting an institution: Choose a third-party laboratory with CMA + CNAS accreditation (e.g., Dezewei Testing CNAS registration number: L8083)

2. Submitting an application: Provide product material description, specifications, intended use, and expected food contact type

3. Sample preparation:

Standard bottle type: It is recommended to provide 5–10 finished product samples

Large-capacity container: Can be cut into test pieces that conform to instrument dimensions

Film liner: Sample separately and label the location

4. 5. Contract Signing: Clearly define testing items, cycle, and fees.

6. Sample Submission for Testing: Standard cycle is 5-7 working days.

7. Report Issuance: Includes test results, CMA/CNAS stamp, and qualification certificate.

V. Fees and Cycle Reference

| Business Type | Cycle | Fee Range

| Routine Plastic Bottle Testing | 7-10 working days | 1000-2500 RMB

VI. Precautions

1. Material Traceability: Clearly indicate the bottle material (PET, PP, PE, PC, PA, etc.). Different materials correspond to different testing items and limits.

2. Intended Use Matching: The "intended food contact type" in the report should be consistent with the actual use to avoid questioning the subsequent usage scenario.

3. Brand Identification: Bottle printing and label adhesives may also require assessment of migration risks.

4. Sample Representativeness: It is recommended to take finished products from the same batch, using the same process and raw materials.

5. Report Scope of Use: Cross-border e-commerce and export products may also need to comply with the standards of the target country (such as FDA, EU). 1935/2004, LFGB)
