Electronic scale tray China GB4806 food contact material testing process

Date:2025-10-22 11:44:22 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Food Contact Materials (FCM) refer to materials that come into contact with food under normal or foreseeable conditions of use but do not themselves constitute part of the food. The complete process and practical points for testing electronic scale trays for food contact materials in China under GB4806:

I. Pre-Test Preparation

1. Confirmation of Applicable Standards

- Electronic scale trays are metal-based food contact materials. Core standards include:

- GB 4806.9-2023 "Food Contact Metal Materials and Articles"

- GB 31604 series (Migration Test Methods, such as GB 31604.1-2015)

- Key test items: Heavy metal migration (13 items, including lead, cadmium, and arsenic) and overall migration level (OML).

2. Sample and Document Preparation

- Sample Requirements:

- Provide 2-3 complete tray samples (including surface coating and all food contact parts);

- If non-metallic components are present (such as silicone anti-slip pads or plastic handles), they must be disassembled for testing.

Required Documents:

Product Specifications, Material Composition List (BOM), and Production Process Description.

II. Detailed Testing Process

Step 1: Select a Compliant Laboratory

The laboratory must possess CMA/CNAS accreditation (e.g., Dezewei CNAS registration number: L8083).

Sign a contract specifying the testing items (cost approximately ¥300-800 per item, depending on complexity).

Step 2: Core Test Items

| Test Item | Test Method Standard | Limit Requirements

| Heavy Metal Migration | GB 31604.49-2016 | Lead ≤ 0.05 mg/kg, Cadmium ≤ 0.02 mg/kg

| Total Migration (OML) | GB 31604.8-2016 | ≤ 10 mg/dm² (simulating high-temperature use in grease)

| Residual Solvent | GB 31604.60-2024 | Benzene ≤ 0.01 mg/kg (if printed coating)

| Perfluorinated Compounds | GB 31604.35-2016 | PFOA ≤ 0.025 mg/kg (if containing a release coating)

> Note: Starting in 2023, eight new heavy metal tests, including aluminum and cobalt, will be added to the heavy metal testing requirements, requiring coverage of 13 elements.

Step 3: Testing Time and Report

- Regular Time: 5-7 business days (expedited processing can be reduced to 3 days);

- Report Contents:

- Comparison table of test data with national standard limits;

- Declaration of Conformity (clearly confirming compliance with GB 4806.9).

III. Compliance Labeling and Market Access

1. Labeling Specifications:

- Products must be labeled "Food Contact" or with the "Spoon and Chopsticks" logo;

- Chinese labeling must include material, applicable temperature, and manufacturer information.

2. Required Documents for Customs Clearance:

- Imported electronic scale trays require a Chinese test report and a Declaration of Conformity.

IV. Frequent Failure Points and Solutions

| Risk Areas | Solutions

| Exceeding Heavy Metal Standards | Use 304/316 Food-Grade Stainless Steel to Avoid Recycled Materials

| Exceeding Coating Solvent Residue Standards | Use Water-Based Coating + Low-Temperature Curing Process to Avoid Benzene-Based Solvents

| Total Migration Failure | Optimize Coating Density (e.g., Add Nanopore Sealing)
