Children's picture books sold on Amazon must pass CPC certification, and the specific requirements are as follows:
I. Core requirements for testing
1. Applicability determination
- Ordinary paper picture books (without game functions and without non-book components) may be exempted from some tests;
- If the picture book contains the following designs, it must be tested as a children's product:
▪️ For children aged 3 and under;
▪️ With toys, three-dimensional structures or detachable parts (such as stickers, puzzles, etc.).
2. Mandatory testing items
- CPSIA test: total lead content (≤100ppm), phthalates (DEHP/DBP/BBP≤0.1%);
- Small parts test: prevent children from swallowing and choking (16 CFR Part 1501);
- Combustion performance: If the picture book contains textile materials (such as cloth books), it must comply with the 16 CFR Part 1610 standard.
II. Certification Process
1. Select a laboratory
- Tested by a third-party laboratory approved by CPSC (such as Dezewei);
- Samples, product manuals and production information are required.
2. Testing and Reporting
- The testing cycle is usually 5-7 working days;
- After the test is completed, the laboratory will issue a report covering product information, testing standards and results.
3. Issuance of CPC Certificate
- The certificate is drafted by the importer or manufacturer and must include:
▪️ Product name, production information;
▪️ Testing standards (such as CPSIA, ASTM F963);
▪️ Laboratory name and contact information.
