Coffee Filter Paper German LFGB Certification

I. Is the product within the scope of LFGB regulations?

Coffee filter paper comes into direct contact with coffee grounds, hot water, and liquid coffee under normal use, making it a typical food contact material. Therefore, it is subject to LFGB regulations 30/31 and related BfR recommendations.

II. Core Items Required for Testing

Coffee filter paper is generally made of wood pulp, bleached, or non-woven fabric. LFGB testing mainly includes the following:

| Test Item | Significance of Testing

| Sensory Testing (Odor, Flavor Transfer) | Must not affect coffee flavor

| Heavy Metals such as Lead and Cadmium | Prevents leaching of harmful metals

| Pentachlorophenol (PCP) | A commonly used preservative in pulp, with extremely strict limits

| Formaldehyde | Adhesive or bleaching process residues

| Fluorescent Whitening Agents | Commonly prohibited in bleached filter paper

| Antimicrobial Agent/Preservative Migration | Must not migrate to food

| Total Migration | Assessing the migration of non-volatile substances to food

| Benzophenone/Benzodiazepines | Ink or printing residues (for products with logos)

If the filter paper has a printed logo (such as brand patterns or text), additional attention needs to be paid to the risk of ink migration.

III. Processing Procedure

1. Sample Submission and Document Preparation

Sample Quantity: Typically 5–10 sheets (depending on laboratory requirements)

Documents: Product ingredient list, printing process, packaging information

2. Laboratory Testing

Testing Cycle: 5–7 working days

Testing Basis: BfR Recommendations, LFGB §30/31, EU (EU) No 1935/2004

3. Report Issuance

German or English version of the test report

Includes testing methods, limits, results, and compliance determination

4. Report Use

German Customs Clearance, Amazon Germany/eBay Registration, Brand Factory Audits

IV. Key Considerations

1. Report Language: German customs prefers German reports; it is recommended to submit a German version first.

2. Report Validity: Typically 1 year; some platforms/buyers accept reports within 2 years.

3. Sample Representativeness: It is recommended to submit finished products rather than raw materials to avoid discrepancies with the actual product.

4. Additional Items for Printed Filters: Coffee filters with printed logos require additional ink-related testing, which will increase the cost and processing time.

5. Choosing a Compliant Laboratory: The laboratory must be ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and have experience with German LFGB testing to ensure its report is officially recognized in Germany.

V. Fee Reference

| Item | Fee Range (RMB)

| Basic Coffee Filter Testing (No Printing) | 1000 – 2000 RMB

| With Printing (Including Ink Migration Testing) | 1500 – 2000 RMB

| Expedited Service | Usually adds 30%–50%
