Sofa fabric EU REACH report processing

Date:2026-07-20 09:53:36 Classification :【question】 Visits:
Obtaining a REACH report for sofa fabrics is a common export compliance requirement. For sofa fabrics (such as textiles, leather, and artificial leather) sold in the EU market, REACH testing and a compliance declaration are core qualifications for entry into platforms like Amazon and customs clearance. Below is a complete guide to obtaining this information.

Sofa Fabric EU REACH Report Guide

I. Common REACH Testing Items for Sofa Fabrics

There are many types of sofa fabrics, and the testing focus varies depending on the material. Sofa fabric testing is not performed on the finished product, but rather differentiated based on material classification.

1. Textile Fabrics (Upholstered Sofas)

Phthalates: DEHP, DBP, BBP, DIBP, DIHP, DHNUP, DCHP, DIPP, etc.

Azo Dyes: 24 carcinogenic aromatic amines

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Formaldehyde

Heavy Metals (Extractable Portions)

Organotin Compounds (TBT, TPhT, etc.)

Perfluorinated Compounds (PFCs) (Waterproof/Stain-Resistant Fabrics)

Disperse Dyes (Allergenic, Commonly Found in Dark-Colored Synthetic Fibers)

2. Leather Fabrics

Azo Dyes

Hexavalent Chromium (CrVI)

Phthalates

Heavy Metals (Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Arsenic, etc.)

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Organotin Compounds

Formaldehyde

PCP (Pentachlorophenol)

3. Artificial Leather/PU/PVC Fabrics

Phthalates (Key: DEHP, DBP, BBP, DIBP)

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Heavy Metals

Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCPs/MCCPs)

Organotin Compounds

4. Special Functional Fabrics

Flame Retardants: TCEP, TCPP, TDCP, DecaBDE

Antibacterial Agents: Triclosan

Stain/Water Repellent Agents: PFCs (Perfluorooctanoic Acid PFOA, Perfluorooctane Sulfonate PFOS)

5. SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) Screening

As of June 2026, the SVHC candidate list has reached 253 substances.

Concentrations exceeding 0.1% (w/w) require notification obligations.

II. Parts of Sofa Fabrics Requiring REACH Testing

REACH testing is conducted according to the material part. The main parts of sofa fabrics requiring testing include:

| Part | Testing Required | Explanation

| Main Fabric (Skin Contact Part) | Mandatory | This is the core of the REACH report:

| Backing/Installation | Mandatory | Often overlooked but required by platforms like Amazon

| Filling (Sponge/Down) | Required depending on the situation | Testing required if chemical handling is involved

| Stitching | Usually exempt | Small quantity, low risk

| Metal Fittings | Can be tested separately | If there are metal parts such as feet or rivets

⚠️ Special Note: Amazon requires all accessible parts (such as backing and lining) to be included in the REACH report or compliance documents; none can be omitted.

III. Processing Procedure

The REACH testing process for sofa fabrics is clear and generally takes 5-7 business days.

Step 1: Determine Product Information

Product Material (Pure Cotton, Linen, Synthetic Fiber, Leather, etc.)

Fabric Composition (Polyester, Nylon, Acrylic, etc.)

Processing Technology (Dyeing, Printing, Waterproofing, Flame Retardant, etc.)

Whether it contains a coating or composite layer

Provide product photos and specifications

Step 2: Select Testing Solution

Basic Testing Package: Azo + Phthalate + PAHs + Heavy Metals + Formaldehyde

Additional Testing: SCCPs, Organotin, PFCs, etc.

Step 3: Send Samples

Sample Quantity Requirements: At least 20-30cm × 10cm for each material/part 20-30cm

Part Requirements: Main fabric and backing fabric should be sent separately.

Sample Quantity: 2 samples per part (one for testing, one for backup).

It is recommended to retain undyed blank samples.

Step 4: Laboratory Testing

Testing Cycle: 5-7 working days (routine items)

Additional Items: +3-5 working days

Issuance of English Test Report

Step 5: Report Issuance

CNAS+CMA accredited English report (Dezewei Testing CNAS Registration No.: L8083)

Some institutions may also provide SDS (Safety Data Sheet)

Report Validity: Usually 1 year (Amazon and other platforms require regular updates)

IV. Required Documents

The following documents are required for obtaining a REACH report for sofa fabric:

1. Product Information Sheet: Product name, model, material composition, processing technology

2. Product Photos: Photos of the main fabric, backing fabric, and lining respectively.

3. Material Specification: Fabric composition percentage, additive list

4. Sample: Prepare as required above.

5. Applicant Information: Company Name, Address, Contact Person

V. Fees and Timeframe

REACH testing fees for sofa fabrics vary depending on the testing items and areas.

| Testing Plan | Testing Items | Fee Range | Timeframe

| Basic Package | Azo + Phthalate + PAHs + Heavy Metals + Formaldehyde | 1000-3000 RMB | 5-7 working days

Notes:

Samples of the same fabric in different colors may require separate testing (due to different dyes).

Expedited testing can shorten the time to 3-5 working days, but the cost will increase by 30%-50%.

Some institutions offer annual packages suitable for companies exporting multiple batches.

VI. Special Reminders

Regarding Amazon Platform Requirements

Amazon requires corresponding test reports for each part.

An English version of the report is required (some accept bilingual versions).

The report must show SVHC screening results.

The platform may require a Declaration of Compliance (DOC).

Regarding REACH Regulation Updates

The SVHC list is updated twice a year (usually in June and January).

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) restrictions were added starting in 2024.

It is recommended to confirm the latest list version before exporting.

Regarding Risk Substances

Azo dyes: The most important testing item for textile fabrics.

Phytaldehyde: A mandatory testing item for leather/PU fabrics.

Hexavalent chromium: A core risk substance for leather fabrics.

Formaldehyde: A routine test for all textile fabrics.
