How to apply for EU ROHS test report for electronic instruments

Date:2025-10-24 09:15:25 Classification :【question】 Visits:
The RoHS Directive is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation. It stands for the "Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment." The complete process and key considerations for obtaining an EU RoHS test report for electronic instruments are as follows:

I. Preliminary Preparation

1. Document Preparation

- Complete the test application form (must include product model, material list, etc.)

- Provide product technical documentation:

✓ Circuit schematic, instruction manual/BOM (Bill of Materials)

✓ 2-3 samples (ensure they represent the final production version)

2. Fee Confirmation

- The agency will provide a quote based on the material type, color, and quantity (single material, approximately several hundred yuan; complex products may cost over a thousand yuan).

- Sign a service agreement after payment.

II. Test Execution

1. Sample Disassembly and Testing

- The laboratory will disassemble the product into its individual materials (metal/non-metal).

- Test for 10 hazardous substance limits:

| Substance | Limit |

| Cadmium (Cd) | ≤100 ppm |

| Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), etc. | ≤1000 ppm |

| Phthalates (DEHP/BBP, etc.) | ≤1000 ppm |

- Test Method: XRF Scanning (Preliminary Screening) + Chemical Analysis (Precise Quantification)

2. Exemption Processing

- Certain electronic components may apply for exemptions (documentation supporting the exemption is required)

III. Report Obtaining and Follow-up

1. Report Issuance

- After passing the test, the official report will be obtained within 5-7 business days (expedited processing may be shortened).

- The report must include: sample information, test standards, result data, and Declaration of Conformity.

2. Validity and Renewal

- The report is valid for one year by default. Retesting is required if the material or process changes.

- For EU market sales, it is recommended to simultaneously apply for CE-EMC certification (including RoHS).

IV. Key Considerations

- Selecting an organization: Look for one with ISO certification. 17025-accredited laboratories (e.g., Dezewei Testing, CNAS registration number: L8083)

- Material Control:

✓ Supply chain must provide RoHS compliance declarations for raw materials

✓ Regular spot checks to prevent batch variations

- Regulatory Updates: Monitor EU updates (e.g., new restricted substances lists)
