EU CE-ROHS test report project for hardware accessories

Date:2025-09-25 10:05:13 Classification :【question】 Visits:
The RoHS Directive is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation, standing for the "Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment." This summary of the specific items and processes for CE certification and RoHS testing required for hardware accessories exported to the EU is organized based on EU regulations and testing agency requirements:

I. RoHS Testing Items for Hardware Accessories

Testing requirements vary depending on the material type:

1. Metal Materials (such as hinges, screws, brackets, etc.):

- Four heavy metal tests: lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), and hexavalent chromium (Cr⁶⁺).

- Limit requirements: Cadmium ≤ 0.01% (100ppm), other substances ≤ 0.1% (1000ppm).

2. Non-metallic Materials (such as plastic handles, insulating coatings, etc.):

- Ten hazardous substance tests: four heavy metals + polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and four phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP).

II. Core CE Certification Testing Items

Hardware accessories with electronic/electrical functions or intended for specific applications must additionally meet CE directives:

1. Low Voltage Directive (LVD):

- Safety tests: temperature rise, leakage current, overload, and mechanical strength (e.g., hinge load-bearing test).

2. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC):

- Applicable to hardware with integrated circuits (e.g., electronic locks), testing for radiated interference, anti-static properties, etc.

3. Specialized Testing for Building Hardware (e.g., hinges, door locks):

- Static load deformation, shear strength, and corrosion resistance tests are conducted in accordance with EN 1935.

III. Testing Process and Required Materials

1. Process Steps:

- Submit application form and sample (approximately 500g for metal parts/split material for non-metal parts) → Laboratory quotation → Payment and sample delivery → Testing within 5-7 days → Report issuance.

2. Required Documents:

- Product technical drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and instruction manual.

IV. Exemptions and Special Considerations

1. ROHS Exemption Scenarios:

- Hardware components with purely mechanical functions and no electrical functionality (such as ordinary bolts) are exempt from ROHS requirements, but those with plating/coatings still require testing.

2. Platform Compliance Requirements:

- Platforms like Amazon and Temu require a CE-ROHS report; otherwise, sales are prohibited.

V. Recommended Testing Strategies

- Prioritize consolidated reports: If the supply chain has complete ROHS data, consolidated component reports can be used to reduce costs.

- Recommended Institution Selection:

- The testing fee for metal parts is approximately 1,000 RMB, and for non-metal parts, approximately 2,000 RMB (varies depending on the number of materials).
