What are the requirements for China GB6675 testing of wooden toys?

Date:2025-08-22 10:11:46 Classification :【question】 Visits:
According to China's mandatory standard GB6675 "Toy Safety" and the latest industry implementation requirements, wooden toys must meet the following core testing requirements, covering the three major safety dimensions of physical, chemical, and combustion:

I. Physical and Mechanical Performance Testing

1. Structural Safety

- Edges and Points: Accessible parts must be free of sharp edges or points, and the ends of metal screws must be polished smooth and free of burrs.

- Small Parts Prevention: Toys for children under 36 months must not produce parts (diameter ≤ 31.7mm) that can be completely inserted into a small parts tester after drop/tension/compression/torque testing.

- Holes and Gaps: Mechanical clearances to prevent finger pinching (e.g., clearances between moving parts should be <5mm or >12mm).

2. Strength Testing

- Drop Test: The wooden body is dropped three times from a height of 85cm to inspect for breakage or the generation of hazardous fragments.

- Tension and Compression Test: A 90N tensile force is applied to removable parts to ensure they remain attached; a 110N compressive force is applied to load-bearing parts to assess structural stability.

II. Chemical Safety Testing (Key Points)

1. Heavy Metal Migration

- The migration of eight heavy metals: lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium, arsenic, selenium, antimony, and barium must comply with limits (e.g., lead ≤ 90 mg/kg).

- 19 new items: GB6675.4-2014 expands to include 19 migratable elements (including aluminum, boron, etc.).

2. Hazardous Chemicals

- Formaldehyde Emission: Formaldehyde emission in wood adhesives ≤ 30 mg/kg (climate chamber method).

- Plasticizer Limits: Total phthalate content (six types, including DBP/BBP/DEHP) ≤ 0.1%.

- Coating Safety: Surface paints must be tested for azo dyes (banned carcinogenic aromatic amines) and total lead content.

III. Combustion Performance Testing

- Material Flame Retardancy:

- Burning velocity of wood and surface coating ≤ 30 mm/s (horizontal combustion method).

- Flammable materials (such as plush decorations without flame retardant treatment) are prohibited.

IV. Additional Requirements for Special Components

1. Electronic Functional Components:

- Sound/light-up wooden toys require additional electrical safety testing (e.g., protection against electric shock and battery safety).

2. Connection Structures:

- Folding mechanisms (e.g., toy box lids) must prevent accidental closure and trapping hazards and be equipped with locking devices.

Key Notes

1. Qualification Requirements:

- Test reports must be issued by a CNAS/CMA-accredited laboratory, a mandatory requirement for e-commerce platforms (Tmall and JD.com).

2. Exemptions:

- Pure works of art, collectibles, and children's products without play functions (e.g., decorative wood carvings) do not require testing.

3. Updates:

- Pay attention to standard revisions (e.g., the plasticizer restrictions in GB6675-2014 are synchronized with those in the EU) and check the official website regularly.

> Testing Process Optimization Suggestions:

> - Cost: Basic testing costs approximately 500-1000 RMB, with a 30% increase for electronic components.

> - Turnaround: Routine testing takes 5-7 working days, extending to 10 days for complex projects.

> - Material Pre-screening: Provide a list of wood species and coating ingredients (BOM) in advance to expedite the testing process.
