Silicone materials and products GB4806.11-2016 Food Contact Materials Testing Guide
I. Testing Item Requirements
According to GB 4806.11-2016 standard, silicone materials and products must pass the following testing items to ensure food safety:
1. Sensory requirements
- Normal color, no odor, no visible dirt, and the soaking liquid must not be turbid or have odor.
2. Heavy metal migration
- Heavy metal (in terms of Pb) ≤0.2mg/kg (dry method) or ≤0.01mg/L (wet method).
3. Total migration
- In simulated liquids such as 4% acetic acid, 20% ethanol, and 50% ethanol, the total migration is ≤10mg/dm².
4. Label identification
- It is necessary to mark "food contact", material name (such as silicone rubber), production date or shelf life, and products containing latex must be clearly marked.
II. Testing process steps
1. Sample preparation
- Provide at least 2 test samples (such as silicone tableware, sealing rings, etc.) to ensure that the samples are clean and unused.
- Submit technical documents: ingredient list, production process description and usage scenario description.
2. Laboratory testing
- Migration test: immerse the sample in a simulated liquid under standard conditions (temperature, time) to detect the release of harmful substances.
- Physical and chemical testing: including physical property evaluation such as hardness, tensile strength, and temperature resistance.
3. Report issuance
- After the test is passed, the laboratory will issue a test report with CMA/CNAS certification, which must include the test method, results and compliance conclusions.
III. Precautions
1. Vulcanizing agent selection
- Ordinary vulcanizing agents are prohibited, and environmentally friendly odorless vulcanizing agents must be used to avoid odor and harmful substance residues.
2. Regularly update the test
- If the product formula, production process or regulations (such as the addition of phthalate limits) are changed, re-testing is required.
3. Special material treatment
- Silicone products with coatings or printed patterns require additional testing for azo dyes and solvent residues.
IV. Recommended testing agencies
Dezewei Testing
- Provides special testing for multiple materials such as silicone and rubber, with transparent fees and support for international standards (such as FDA, EU 10/2011).
V. Summary
Silicone materials and products must pass GB 4806.11-2016 testing to enter the food contact field. It is recommended that companies regularly check product compliance and select laboratories with CMA/CNAS qualifications to ensure the authority of the report.
