Registration of the EU UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) is an important step to ensure the safety and compliance of mixtures placed on the EU market. The following is the main process of UFI registration:
I. Preparation stage
1. Understand the UFI registration requirements:
- The EU CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) regulations require that mixtures need to register UFI before they are placed on the market.
- UFI is used to identify mixtures and ensure their safety and compliance.
2. Determine the registration subject:
- Usually the manufacturer, importer or downstream user responsible for placing the mixture on the market.
3. Prepare registration materials:
- Including the safety data sheet (SDS) of the mixture, ingredient information, classification and labeling information, etc.
II. Generate UFI
- UFI usually consists of 16 characters, including letters and numbers.
- Enterprises can generate UFI by entering the VAT number of the EU enterprise and any number (numbers between 0-268435455), or randomly generate it without a VAT number.
- UFI generation can be done through ECHA's online generator.
III. Submit UFI registration information
1. Choose the submission method:
- Submission can be made through ECHA's unified submission channel or the national submission system of the member states.
2. Fill in and submit the registration form:
- Fill in the relevant information of the mixture in the registration form, including UFI, manufacturer information, mixture description, classification and labeling information, etc.
- Submit the registration form and wait for review.
IV. Review and feedback
1. Review registration information:
- ECHA or the competent authority of the member states will review the submitted registration information.
2. Receive feedback:
- If the registration information meets the requirements, you will receive a confirmation letter or registration certificate.

V. Display UFI
1. Display UFI on the label:
- Print the generated UFI on the label of the mixture and make sure it is clearly visible.
2. Display UFI in SDS:
- For unpackaged mixtures, UFI should be included in the SDS.
VI. Information Update
- If the product information changes, the company is obliged to update the notification in a timely manner.
Notes
- The generation of UFI is not officially assigned, but the company generates and assigns it to the product online through software.
- A UFI can only be assigned to one mixture formula, but if the concentration of the product ingredient changes beyond the range width or the ingredient composition changes, a new UFI needs to be generated.
