How to apply for French DGCCRF certification for plastic cups

Date:2025-07-14 10:33:57 Classification :【question】 Visits:755
French DGCCRF is the abbreviation of French food-grade safety regulations. The complete process and key points of French DGCCRF certification and testing for plastic cups:

1. Necessity of testing

According to the French Food and Dietary Supplies Law (DGCCRF), all plastic cups in contact with food (such as disposable cups, sports water cups, children's drinking cups, etc.) must pass safety tests to ensure that the migration of chemical substances does not harm human health. Products that fail to pass the certification will be banned from sale in the French market.

2. Core testing items

Based on the material characteristics of plastic cups, the following items are tested:

1. Comprehensive migration test

- Simulate water, 3% acetic acid, 10% ethanol environment to detect the total migration of chemical substances.

2. Specific substance limit test

- Heavy metals: lead (Pb) ≤ 0.01mg/dm², cadmium (Cd) ≤ 0.002mg/dm²

- Vinyl chloride monomer: ≤ 1mg/kg (applicable to PVC material)

- Phthalates: 6 plasticizers such as DEHP/DBP/BBP ≤ 0.1%

3. Sensory evaluation

- Check for odor migration (such as plastic smell) to ensure that it does not affect the taste of food.

> Note:

> - Colored cups need to be separated and tested by color;

> - Silicone seals need to be tested separately for volatile organic compounds (VOM).

3. Processing process and cycle

Step 1: Material preparation

- Required documents:

- Product manual, material composition table (including additive ratio)

- Production process flow chart

- Fill in the DGCCRF test application form

Step 2: Send samples

- Quantity requirements:

- 3~5 unused new products (including cup body, cup lid and other components)

- Ink formula is required for printed patterns

Step 3: Laboratory testing

- Testing agency:

- French DGCCRF accredited laboratory (such as Dezewei, etc.) must be selected

- Cycle:

- Conventional: 5-7 working days

- Expedited: 3 days (cost +30%~50%)

Step 4: Report and compliance mark

- After certification:

- Obtain DGCCRF test report

- Product affixed with "food grade safety" mark and manufacturer information

4. Key points

1. Material compliance priority:

- Avoid using recycled plastics, otherwise the migration amount is likely to exceed the standard;

2. Printing ink restrictions:

- The pattern must use heavy metal-free ink and stay away from the cup mouth contact area;

3. Annual update requirements:

- The certification is valid for 1 year, and the formula change requires re-testing.
