When electric tools are sold in the EU market, they need to comply with the requirements of RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances Directive). Since July 22, 2019, the RoHS2.0 directive requires all electrical and electronic equipment (including electric tools) to be tested for 10 hazardous substances. The following is the process of the EU RoHS10 test for electric tools:
1. Preparation stage
- Understand the RoHS2.0 directive: Familiarize yourself with the requirements of the RoHS2.0 directive, including the restrictions on 10 hazardous substances.
- Collect a list of materials: List all the materials and components used in the electric tools.
- Select a testing agency: Select a qualified third-party testing agency, such as Shenzhen Dezewei Technology Testing Co., Ltd.
2. Submit an application
- Fill in the application form: Submit the application form to the testing agency and provide detailed information about the electric tool.
- Provide samples: Prepare and submit electric tool samples, the quantity is determined according to the requirements of the testing agency.
3. Testing stage
- Sample testing: The testing agency conducts 10 hazardous substance tests on the submitted power tool samples, including:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)
- Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP)
- Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
4. Report stage
- Test report: After the testing agency completes the test, it will issue a detailed RoHS 10 test report.
- Audit report: The company audits the test report to ensure that all test results meet the requirements of the RoHS2.0 directive.
5. Declaration of Compliance
- Prepare Declaration of Conformity: Prepare the RoHS Declaration of Conformity for power tools based on the test results.
- Affix CE Mark: Affix the CE mark to the power tool to indicate that the product complies with the EU RoHS Directive and other relevant directives.
6. Archiving and Follow-up
- Archive Technical Documents: Archive technical documents such as RoHS test reports and Declaration of Conformity for inspection by the EU market surveillance agency.
- Continuous Compliance: Ensure that power tools continue to comply with the requirements of the RoHS2.0 Directive during the production process, and conduct regular testing and audits.
Notes
- Regulatory updates: Pay attention to updates to the RoHS Directive to ensure that power tools always comply with the latest regulatory requirements.
- Supply Chain Management: Strengthen the management of the supply chain to ensure that the products provided by all material and component suppliers comply with RoHS requirements.
Through the above process, power tool manufacturers can ensure that their products comply with the requirements of the EU RoHS10 tests and successfully enter the EU market.
